Toposa Village
This Sunday was not as slow as the others as one of the missionaries took me on a tour of one of the Toposa villages that are out in the bush a ways. We were not that far out, but in a more remote area than I've ever been. It was very interesting. The first thing you notice is that there are no men only women and children. It turns out, that the men follow the cattle herds as they graze, and the women stay in the village and farm the land and tend to the children. A village is made up of several smaller family units, which is what I took pictures of. After I got back from the tour, Francis called and wanted me to box up a tool so it could be sent to Nairobi to be repaired. The first picture is of a young girl grinding sorghum. The next is one of the women left to care for the village. If you click on the picture and make it larger you can see some of the facial scaring that they do--I've seen a lot worse than hers. The next one is a shot of the inside of the village before all the people came to greet us. The last is of the village as we drove up to it.
