Variety in Kapoeta

Today was meter reading day in Kapoeta, and Francis asked me to go with guys and see if I could see any thing wrong with the installations.  Most everything looked good to me, except for some clearance problems. Since all the meters are digital and the power is off from 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock you cannot  read then. We then went out to where the guys tried to pull a pole yesterday and couldn't--remember no digger trucks.  The only equipment they  have  is a half ton 4 wheel pickup with a front end wench, and a half ton carryall type rig with a front end wench.  So all I did was pull up to the pole and put the wench around the butt, pull it up and tip the pole over. The real problem to me was how to get it on the pole trailer.  This was no problem to these guys--the three of us just picked one up and set it on the pole trailer then set the other end on this is a 35 foot class 5 pole. That done we took it back to the pole yard where I took some pictures of some guys unloading a load of  new poles.  I thought it was interesting how they did that with no equipment. We then had an early lunch

they normally don't eat lunch until 1 but we wanted to eat while the power was off. We then finished reading the meters. We got backaround 3:30 and then went out and started to work on a new service. didn't get it done since they wire everything up to the breaker panel and it was time to quit work. When I got back to the shop I helped Francis anchor down the new fuel tanks for the generators.  We got that done about 8 o'clock and called it a day.  The 1st photo is of the guys reading meters, the second is of Francis and me  anchoring down the fuel tanks, the next 3 are of the guys unloading the new poles.
